Kykko Monastery is one of the most famous wealthiest monasteries in the whole Cyprus. Founded in 1100 and devoted to the Virgin Mary, it possesses one of the three surviving icons attributed to St. Luke. The icon, enclosed in a shrine of tortoiseshell and covered in silver gilt & mother-of-pearl, stands at the front of the iconostasis.
