Pafos also became the capital city of Cyprus under the successors of Alexander the Great, the Ptolemies, during the time when its harbour was a busy successful port. It remained as the capital for over seven centuries and retained its importance under Roman rule. Its most renowned Governor was Sergius Paulus who was converted to Christianity by St Paul in 45 AD. For its historical and cultural values, Pafos is also included in the official list of UNESCO Cultural Heritage sites.
