Lefkara

Lefkara is a beautiful village, partly restored & protected and famous for its local lace recognized as Lefkaritika. Historically, Leonardo Da Vinci found this embroidery work so attractive that he purchased a tablecloth to lay on the Ayia Trapeza, known as the "altar" of Milan Cathedral. Lefkara has also earned a great prestige for its silverware.

This fascination village offers many interesting points. The House of Patsalos (presently being restored) possesses the Lace and Silverware Museum. The Church of the Arch-angle Michael in Kato Lefkara is worth seeing with its late 12th century wall paintings. Church of the Holy Cross is remarkable especially with its beautiful 18th century iconostasis and 13th century silver cross. In commemoration of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, every year a religious fair takes place on the 13th & 14th September.
